During recent ornithological surveys in the national park near the village of Novomalin, a black stork was discovered — a rare and elusive species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.
This is reported by Rivne24
Unlike the white stork, the black stork avoids open areas and human settlements, preferring secluded forests located near rivers, swamps, and floodplains. This bird leads a hidden lifestyle, making encounters infrequent, and each sighting is important for monitoring its distribution.
Although the overall population of the black stork is relatively low, it is regularly recorded in Ukraine, indicating the use of local habitats for feeding or as resting places during migration.
