Poltava Coach: Veres Showed Character Even at 0:2

Poltava’s assistant coach Ihor Tymchenko commented on the match against Rivne’s Veres.

Ihor Tymchenko expressed his surprise at the game’s result, noting that the team could have performed better. “I still don’t understand how we could have lost such a game to our opponent. Of course, Veres deserves a lot of credit for this. Even at 0:2, they continued to fight. And in the end, luck smiled on them. We fell victim to the cruel twist of an old football adage: if you don’t score, they will. We conceded the first goal right after a great chance that we failed to convert,” he stated.

Tymchenko also pointed out the mistakes made by his team that prevented them from winning. “In the second half, our mistakes did not allow us to win. I believe we did not deserve to lose. But in football, it happens that the game is forgotten, and we remain at the bottom of the league with this defeat,” he added.

Speaking about substitutions, the assistant coach mentioned that the team conceded the second goal right after the break when all the players were still relatively fresh. “Then we noticed some fatigue. We decided to make four substitutions at once. We currently have players who can strengthen the game. I believe the substitutions refreshed our play. Yes, there may not have been much creativity or combination play. But at that moment, it was a game of nerves. We got caught up in a siege, and Veres caught us on counterattacks,” Tymchenko concluded.
