“Your relative allegedly got into a car accident and needs money for treatment.”
This is reported by Rivne24
Over the past week in Rivne, criminals carried out a series of frauds, resulting in three pensioners losing nearly 1 million hryvnias. The prosecutor’s office has already charged three fraudsters, one of whom is in custody, while the identity of another criminal is currently being established.
The fraudsters called elderly people, posing as doctors, law enforcement officers, and even their children. During the conversations, they resorted to manipulation, claiming that the relatives of the victims had been in a car accident and urgently needed money for treatment.
After this, “couriers” would come to the pensioners’ homes to collect the money, often in foreign currency. To confirm their story, the fraudsters asked the victims to write a statement granting permission for the operation and a receipt for the transfer of funds.
Only after this did the victims call their relatives and find out that they had fallen victim to fraudsters.
