Lyme disease is an illness caused by the bite of an infected tick.
This is reported by Rivne24
In the Rivne region, 191 cases of Lyme disease were recorded in 2025, which is an 18% increase compared to the previous year.
In the first quarter of 2026, 24 new cases have already been registered, including two children under the age of 17.
Not all ticks carry Borrelia, so not every bite leads to illness. In some infected individuals, a migrating erythema may appear early on — a characteristic ring-shaped redness on the skin at the bite site. However, this symptom is not mandatory, and its absence does not rule out the possibility of infection.
If left untreated, Lyme disease can cause serious skin damage, impairments in the musculoskeletal system, as well as problems with the nervous and cardiovascular systems.
