The man who shot a dog and recorded it on video faces 5 to 8 years of imprisonment.

This is reported by Rivne24

On April 14, around 5:30 PM, police discovered a video during a social media monitoring session, showing an unknown man shooting a dog in the head while holding it on a leash.

The following day, detectives from the criminal investigation department identified a 43-year-old resident of the Rivne region as a suspect in the crime. This man was already in custody for committing a contract murder and kidnapping a woman in December 2023. Recently, the court changed his preventive measure to round-the-clock house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Investigators found that the perpetrator, acting with intent to commit animal cruelty, shot the dog in the head between mid-December 2018 and the end of January 2019.

During the animal’s suffering, he filmed his actions and made ironic comments about them. As a result of the injuries sustained, the dog died on the spot.

The 43-year-old man has been charged with a crime under part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to animal cruelty leading to the animal’s death, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy.

Police are also identifying other individuals involved in this crime.

The investigator has twice petitioned the Rivne City Court for a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect, but the court denied these requests.

Currently, the pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal proceedings have been submitted to the court.
