Families of Defenders from Rivne Region Awarded State Honors

The relatives of the fallen defenders from the Zdolbuniv community were presented with awards. Posthumously, Mykola Lukashuk and Petro Khomyts were awarded the Order of Courage III class.

Mykola Lukashuk took up arms to defend Ukraine on February 26, 2022. He served on the Belarusian border and later defended Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia direction as part of the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade. In October 2023, Mykola Lukashuk went missing. For almost two years, his family hoped for the best. It was later confirmed that the sergeant was killed on October 4, 2023. He was 53 years old.

Petro Khomyts voluntarily joined the military in August 2022. He served in the 46th Separate Air Assault Brigade, where he was an assistant grenade launcher. On December 10, 2022, Petro fought his last battle. On December 23, 2022, his family received a message about his disappearance while performing a combat mission in Donetsk region. To date, his death has been confirmed by a court ruling. The soldier was 25 years old.
