Oleg Shandruk on Veres’ Game and Team Relationships

The head coach of the Rivne club Veres, Oleg Shandruk, commented on the away match against Obolon, in which his team drew – 1:1.

Shandruk noted that the first half was successful: “A good start from us, we controlled the game for half the time and scored a goal. After that, we slowed down a bit and lost the necessary momentum. The game leveled out, and we played more defensively.” The coach emphasized that after the break, his team started to think more about defense: “At the end of the match, we dropped a bit, considering the two long-range shots from the opponents. We can thank Fortune that they didn’t go in, as it was a long-range shot that Obolon scored their goal with.”

Oleg Shandruk expressed the opinion that there is currently some potential within the team, but it has not yet become a cohesive unit: “We are working from game to game. We have a fairly new team with many foreigners and young players. I understand that we have a collective, but we do not yet have a team. We are working on making this team’s play enjoyable to watch.”

The coach also spoke about the forced substitutions in the team: “Today we had three forced substitutions. Denis Ndukwe has a suspected back bruise, and I hope it’s just a bruise. We are more concerned about Maksym Smiian, who has a problem with his knee joint – he will undergo an examination tomorrow. Ihor Kharatin felt discomfort in the back of his thigh again due to the heavy pitch.”

Shandruk believes that under different circumstances, the team could have scored a second goal: “The opponent did not close us down near the goal. Yes, Obolon had dangerous long-range shots, but today we did not have defensive problems that we could not handle.”
