Police Officer in Rivne Forced Child to Buy Alcohol for Blackmail

A juvenile prevention inspector in Rivne has been found guilty of bribery.

This is reported by Rivne24

The police officer forced a minor girl to purchase alcohol at a store and then demanded money from the owner to avoid administrative liability. The court sentenced him to five years in prison with the confiscation of part of his property.

According to the verdict issued on March 10, Dmytro Hodun, who has been working as a juvenile prevention inspector since February 2018, along with a colleague, provided funds to the minor girl on July 20 of the same year, compelling her to buy a low-alcohol beverage at the “Rukavychka” store in Rivne.

After the sale took place, the police officer entered the store to take an explanation from the seller. Later, he invited the owner of the establishment to his office and stated that he could prepare administrative materials for selling alcohol to a minor. The police officer offered to resolve the issue for 4,000 hryvnias. After receiving the money, he was arrested.

Despite Hodun’s denial of guilt, the court considered witness testimonies, expert results, and physical evidence. During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused, along with his wife, pressured the minor to change her testimony.

The judge found the police officer guilty under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receiving unlawful benefits by a public official) and sentenced him to five years in prison with the confiscation of 25% of his property. The verdict may still be appealed.
