In Rivne Region, Criminals to Be Tried for Illegal Amber Business

Police investigators have completed the pre-trial investigation, with the value of the seized “sunny” stones exceeding 1.3 million hryvnias. The suspects face up to 7 years in prison with property confiscation.

Law enforcement officials established that the organization of the illegal activity was carried out by a 27-year-old resident of the village of Tynne, who involved his 21-year-old brother and a 21-year-old acquaintance in the operation.

It is known that from July 2024 to February 2025, the young men purchased illegally extracted raw amber, sorted it by fractions, stored it in their households and garages, and systematically resold it to wholesale buyers. The proceeds from the sale of amber were distributed among the suspects.

During the searches, nearly 450 kilograms of “sunny” stones were seized, which have been placed under arrest.

Police investigators, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, have informed three members of the organized criminal group of their suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2, 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 240-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional illegal acquisition, transportation, and storage of amber, the origin of which is not confirmed by relevant documents, committed repeatedly in significant amounts by an organized group).

The court has chosen preventive measures for the offenders in the form of round-the-clock house arrest. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal proceedings have been sent to court.
