Valeriy Ovdiichuk was born on June 4, 1983, in the village of Piskiv. After completing his education at the village school, he trained as a driver and worked in temporary jobs.

In June 2024, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After completing training at a military training ground, he was assigned as a senior shooter-operator of the ranger battalion of military unit A4056.

In August of the same year, Valeriy’s unit headed to the Pokrovsk direction of the front. According to his cousin Lyudmyla, “they arrived at the location on August 16. The next day, there was still contact with him, but then he disappeared. I searched for any information about him, found the relatives of his comrade with whom he went to the position, but also learned that he was missing in action. At the end of April this year, we received a call from Khmelnytskyi informing us of a DNA profile match. Valeriy was killed in his first combat outing.”

Only his mother remains among Valeriy’s close relatives.

The farewell to the fallen hero will take place on May 11 at 11:00 AM. A bus will depart from the center of Piskiv to take the villagers to say goodbye to Valeriy Ovdiichuk.

  • 12:30 PM — the mourning procession will enter Kostopil and move through the streets of Rivnenska-Nova to the Church of Peter and Paul.
  • 12:50 PM — funeral service at the Church of Peter and Paul.
  • After the ceremony, the fallen soldier will be accompanied on foot to Taras Shevchenko Square, where a public farewell will take place.
