In Rivne, a soldier received a sentence for a false bomb threat at a cinema

According to the verdict, delivered on February 16, the incident occurred on November 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Rivne. Around 1:00 PM, the accused called the emergency line 102 and reported a bomb threat at the “Ukraine” cinema. Law enforcement and emergency services arrived at the scene urgently, but no explosives were found.

In court, the soldier admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. He explained that he had been drinking alcohol with an acquaintance and, while near the installation “The Price of Independence” featuring portraits of those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war, he was outraged by the behavior of strangers whom he believed did not respect the memory of the heroes. The man noted that his twin brother had died in the war, which affected his emotional state.

The accused did not hide his identity and remained at the scene until the patrol officers arrived.

Judge Serhii Naumov found the serviceman guilty under part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (knowingly false report about the preparation of an explosion) and released him from actual punishment, imposing a one-year probationary sentence. The verdict may be appealed.
