In Rivne, the driver who hit a girl was detained for driving under the influence

The investigation revealed that on the evening of December 7, a 45-year-old resident of Rivne, driving a Mercedes-Benz E-200 while intoxicated, struck a 12-year-old girl at an unregulated pedestrian crossing.

As a result of the traffic accident, the child sustained serious injuries, including fractures of both bones in her left leg, and was hospitalized.

An examination of the driver showed a blood alcohol content of 3.28 per mille. The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility.

Under the procedural guidance of the Rivne District Prosecutor’s Office, the driver has been charged with violating traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, resulting in moderate bodily harm to the victim (Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved.

The vehicle has been seized, and a motion for its arrest has been submitted to the court.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, with investigators from the Investigative Department of the Rivne District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Rivne Region working on the case. The penalty under the article provides for imprisonment for up to 3 years, as well as deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 3 to 5 years.
