The Dubno District Court made a ruling regarding a native of the Ternopil region, who caused a fatal accident on the Kyiv-Chop highway while driving an Audi Q7. As a result of the incident, a 49-year-old man, who was repairing a truck on the roadside, lost his life. The court sentenced the perpetrator of the accident to one year of probation.

The fatal accident occurred on July 5, 2025, around 12:00 near the village of Verba in the Dubno district of the Rivne region. 71-year-old Oleg Pokidko, while driving the Audi Q7, struck the 49-year-old man who was repairing the left wheel of the trailer at that moment during a lane change. Due to the injuries sustained, the man died at the scene.

The accused admitted his guilt and stated that he had paid moral compensation to the relatives of the deceased. Oleg Pokidko explained that on that day he was driving from Brody to Rivne with the cruise control activated at a speed of about 70 km/h. During the lane change, he felt that the car had hit something, which turned out to be an emergency stop sign. He noticed a man squatting on the road and, trying to avoid hitting him, sharply switched to the left lane, but at that moment the man stood up, and he was struck by the right door of the car. After the accident, Oleg Pokidko immediately stopped and exited the vehicle.

Judge Oleksiy Tomilin found Oleg Pokidko guilty of violating traffic rules that led to the death of the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and imposed a sentence of 4 years in prison with a 2-year driving ban. However, the court converted the actual sentence to 1 year of probation. The accused is also required to pay 10,600 hryvnias in expert examination costs to the state. The verdict can be appealed in the appellate court.
