On July 5, 2023, emergency medical personnel transported a 55-year-old resident of the village of Vysotsk to Dubrovytsia City Hospital.

During the examination, the doctor, underestimating the patient’s condition, diagnosed him with bruises and suggested he stay for treatment at the medical facility. However, the man refused, and the medical worker prescribed outpatient treatment.
Eight days later, the patient was hospitalized in critical condition in the intensive care unit. For four days, medical staff fought for his life, but unfortunately, the man passed away.
According to the forensic medical examination, the death of the 55-year-old resident of Vysotsk was due to brain swelling, cessation of central nervous system functions, as well as cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Police established that during the initial examination, the 37-year-old doctor inadequately performed his professional duties: he did not fully assess the risks, failed to suspect the presence of a traumatic brain injury in the patient, and did not order the necessary tests, which ultimately led to the fatal outcome.
The investigator informed the doctor of the suspicion of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to the improper performance of a medical worker’s duties that resulted in severe consequences for the patient.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal proceedings have been sent to court.
