Doctors in Lviv Successfully Saved Two-Month-Old Girl from Rivne

Two-month-old Olivia from Rivne was at risk due to a dangerous tumor in the right lateral ventricle of her brain. The only chance for her survival was an urgent and complex neurosurgical intervention.

This is reported by Rivne24

The operation was successfully performed by a team of neurosurgeons at the Children’s Medicine Center, as reported by the “Okhmatdyt” hospital.

The doctors managed to completely remove the tumor, preserving the child’s life and health.

The head of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic, Mykhailo Lovha, noted that the intervention was accompanied by high risks. At the time of the operation, Olivia weighed approximately six kilograms, and the tumor was located in the area of the choroid plexus, complicating the surgical process due to intense blood supply and proximity to the area of the brain responsible for movement.

Before the surgery, the medical team carefully worked through all possible scenarios, prepared a reserve of donor blood, special hemostatic materials, and involved adjacent specialists in case of complications.

The surgical process took longer than usual. The doctors monitored blood loss step by step and carefully removed the tumor to avoid damaging the motor areas of the brain. Such interventions are only possible under conditions of intraoperative monitoring and coordinated teamwork, which included neurosurgeons, neurophysiologists, anesthesiologists, and operating room nurses.

Currently, little Olivia is feeling well. The girl is developing actively, eating well, cooing, and smiling. According to her mother, all the skills the child had before the surgery have fully recovered, and new ones have also emerged — appropriate for her age.
