Vadym Shevchuk, a native of Zdolbuniv, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. He served in the 35th Separate Marine Brigade, defending key settlements such as Avdiivka, Vuhledar, and Marinka. For his bravery, he was awarded a sea wave-colored beret, symbolizing the courage and resilience of marines. With the call sign “Professor,” Vadym participated in the Kursk operation despite restrictions on his military service eligibility. After sustaining injuries and undergoing treatment, he continued to serve in the Sumy direction as a drone operator, earning numerous awards. Unfortunately, Vadym was killed on March 11, 2026.

Andrii Hutnyk, born on December 7, 1987, also chose to defend Ukraine after the onset of the Russian invasion. As a junior sergeant, he served as a mechanic-driver in the 3rd tank platoon of the 2nd tank company. On September 17, 2025, Andrii was killed during an enemy drone strike while evacuating in the Donetsk region.
