Fatal Traffic Accident in Rivne Region Involving Border Guard: Investigation Ongoing

The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) is investigating the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident in the Rivne region, involving a serviceman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, who is stationed in the Sumy direction.

The accident occurred on February 4, 2026, around 4:00 PM on the Kyiv-Chop highway, near the village of Rudnya in the Dubno district of Rivne region. According to preliminary data, a 38-year-old border guard, while off duty and driving his own vehicle, lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane, and collided with a truck.

As a result of the collision, a 42-year-old female passenger in the car died at the scene. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries at the Radiviliv Central District Hospital.

Other circumstances of the traffic accident are being established. A number of expert examinations have been appointed to clarify all details of the incident.

According to preliminary legal qualification, the case falls under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation that resulted in the death of the victim). The sanction for this article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
