Oleg Shandruk: Emotions on the Field Must Be Controlled

The head coach of the Rivne football club “Veres,” Oleg Shandruk, shared his thoughts after the first home victory of the new season.

This is reported by Rivne24

Shandruk admitted that there was anxiety about the result after a player was sent off, but emphasized the importance of controlling emotions during matches. “Of course, there was anxiety about the result after the red card. Anxiety is present in every match. Yes, we often try to control it because we need to react to events on the field without excessive emotions. But anxiety is always there. That’s why we love football – for the emotions,” he noted.

The coach specifically addressed the incident with the red card. He highlighted that not all players can restrain their emotions in critical situations. “Denis Ndukwe understands his mistake; he has already apologized. And the team, let’s say, supported him. This is also an important moment in the team’s development: the locker room’s reaction to the actions of an individual player,” he added.

Shandruk also pointed out the positive aspects despite the setbacks. “I’m not saying we need to get a red card in every game to form a team. But the players who remained on the field after the sending off fought hard for this result. And I think we deserved to win,” he said.

The coach explained why Wally did not make the squad. “We are resolving issues with his visa since he is a foreign player. I think he will be with us again from Monday to prepare for the next games,” Shandruk noted.

Speaking about Ndukwe’s absence in the next match, he emphasized that it is a serious challenge for the team. “Of course, he is a player who is currently our main number nine. His absence is a problem for us. But we have other players,” he added.

The coach also congratulated Serhiy Korniychuk on his debut, noting that he just arrived on Wednesday but is already ready to play. “He is in good shape, went through summer training with Polissya, played for the youth national team, and scored a goal there. He was in a positive mood. That’s why we decided to bring him on as a substitute,” Shandruk noted.

Regarding Samuel Nongo, the coach highlighted his hard work on recovery after injury: “Believe me, it is very difficult to recover from such an injury. We planned his return at best in October, and today is only the twelfth of September. Physically, this player looked very good today. I hope he continues to progress.”

Eren Aydin, in Shandruk’s opinion, still needs time to gain the necessary form, although he is a quality player. “Today, there was even a desire to bring him on for a few minutes, but at the end of the game, we decided to make a tactical substitution based on position,” the coach summarized.
