Fatal Traffic Accident Near the Village of Dermań
A fatal traffic accident occurred near the village of Dermań in the Zdolbuniv region, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist. Local residents claim that the tragedy happened due to the extremely poor condition of the road.
This is reported by Rivne24
The incident took place on Sunday, September 7, at approximately 5:30 PM. The driver of a minibus, attempting to avoid a large pothole, veered into oncoming traffic. At that moment, the “Rivne-Dermań” minibus collided with a Lifan motorcycle. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the motorcyclist, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Sofia Matviychuk, Inspector of the Rivne Police Communication Department:
— The investigator established that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz minibus entered the oncoming lane, where he collided head-on with the motorcyclist. The driver explained to the authorities that he violated the rules because he was avoiding a pothole in the road. The 53-year-old minibus driver was sober. A pre-trial investigation is underway for violating traffic safety rules that resulted in the victim’s death, under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Valentin Demchuk, President of the “Union of Transporters of Ukraine”:
— Even before the war, transporters complained about the condition of the roads in the Zdolbuniv region. I traveled around the area to see everything for myself. The condition of the roads there can be described in one word — terrible. It is evident that not much has changed since then. Organizing transport on such roads is unprofitable because vehicles constantly break down. Moreover, it is dangerous to transport passengers, as the potholes are so large that they cannot be avoided.
Fedir Misyura, Head of the Infrastructure and Industry Department of the Rivne Regional State Administration:
— I am not aware of the road to Dermań, as this falls under the jurisdiction of the road service. However, I saw photos from the scene of the fatal accident, and there are visible potholes. Many settlements currently lack proper roads. The issue of road repairs is pressing for Rivne region. But everyone must understand that we are currently at war, and most of the funds are directed towards supporting the army.
The Mizoцьka community reported that the road where the tragedy occurred falls under the jurisdiction of the Infrastructure Recovery and Development Service in the Rivne region. They have repeatedly contacted the agency, but repairs during the war are impossible due to a lack of funding.
