Poland Used Force Due to Invasion of Russian Drones in Its Airspace

On the night of September 10, Polish military forces were compelled to use weapons due to a large-scale violation of the country’s airspace by Russian strike drones. The operations of four airports were temporarily suspended due to the threat of an attack.

The attack began around one o’clock in the morning when a group of kamikaze drones crossed the Ukrainian border and entered Polish airspace, heading towards the city of Zamość, located 60 kilometers from Ukraine. According to monitoring services, the number of such groups could exceed ten.

Response from Polish Authorities and Military

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces immediately scrambled fighter jets, including F-35s. Air defense and radar systems were placed on full combat readiness. The airports in Rzeszów, Lublin, Warsaw, and Modlin temporarily ceased operations. Special attention was given to the protection of the Podlaskie, Masovian, and Lublin Voivodeships.

The operation continues in response to numerous violations of Polish airspace. The military has used weapons against targets. I am in constant contact with the president and the minister of defense. I received a direct report from the operational commander.

International Reaction

U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson accused Russia of effectively declaring war on Poland and called on the Trump administration to take immediate action, including providing Ukraine with weapons for strikes on Russian territory and imposing new stringent sanctions.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin emphasized that these incidents are a clear signal that Putin is testing NATO’s resolve. He stressed the unacceptability of ignoring such provocations, especially in light of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of a violation of Polish airspace. Earlier, on September 4, two drones had already entered the country’s territory, and on August 20, an incident occurred in the village of Osiny in the Lublin Voivodeship involving the crash and explosion of a drone, which damaged several residential buildings.
