In Rivne, a Drunken Man Stole a Minibus and Caused an Accident

Yesterday, on Kyivska Street, patrol officers received a report of a traffic accident. Witnesses claim that an unknown man got behind the wheel of a minibus, started it, and crashed into a tree.

Shortly thereafter, the minibus driver arrived at the scene and explained that he had left the vehicle unlocked and unattended. A random passerby took advantage of this and decided to take it for a ride.

The patrol officers quickly located the offender. He showed clear signs of intoxication. The breathalyzer indicated 1.97 per mille, which is nearly ten times the permissible limit.

When questioned by law enforcement, the 22-year-old man admitted that he got behind the wheel out of curiosity.

The police compiled several administrative reports against the offender:

  • under Part 1 of Article 130 (driving a vehicle while intoxicated) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses;
  • under Article 124 (violation of traffic rules resulting in an accident);
  • under Part 2 of Article 126 (driving a vehicle by a person without the right to do so) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
