In Rivne Region, a Father of Three Children Sentenced for Evasion of Mobilization

The Demydiv District Court in Rivne Region has issued a verdict against Vasyl Ordich, who received a three-year prison sentence for evasion of mobilization, despite being a father of many children.

This is reported by Rivne24

According to the court’s verdict issued on October 9, in March 2024, the accused underwent a medical commission that deemed him fit for military service. Nevertheless, Vasyl Ordich refused to accept the summons and did not appear on the designated day at the assembly point for military conscripts.

During the court proceedings, Ordich claimed he was entitled to a deferment because he is raising three minor children. He specifically mentioned his newborn daughter, who was born on November 30, 2023, as well as two children from his wife’s first marriage. However, his wife reported that their biological father does not maintain contact with the children and does not pay alimony, so her current husband financially supports all three children.

“The accused and his lawyer did not provide the court with evidence supporting the grounds for deferment from mobilization, namely that the accused has three minor children,” the case materials state.

Judge Tamila Feha found Vasyl Ordich guilty of the crime under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment. This decision can be appealed in the appellate court.
