Yesterday, February 14, at around 21:20, the police received a report from a 71-year-old woman from Rivne. She stated that her 36-year-old son came to their apartment on Nazara Nebozhynskyi Street with a bottle of flammable liquid, under the influence of drugs, and started a conflict.

During the argument, the son began demanding money from his mother, which led to a quarrel with his 74-year-old father, who was also at home. As a result, the son doused his father with gasoline and set him on fire.

Rescuers quickly arrived at the scene, evacuated 35 residents of the building, and extinguished the fire in the apartment. Unfortunately, the 74-year-old man died at the scene.

The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility. Biological samples were taken from him to determine his level of intoxication.

Investigators are conducting a pre-trial investigation under Part 2 of Article 115 (intentional murder committed with particular cruelty) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying the suspect of the charges and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
