SBU Detains Agent Who Adjusted Russian Attacks in Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained two FSB agents, one of whom is an IT specialist from Cherkasy. He was creating new recruitment channels for Russian intelligence services by registering mobile numbers from Ukrainian operators for fake social media accounts.

This is reported by Rivne24

The prepared accounts were handed over to the Russian side for conducting recruitment operations allegedly on behalf of Ukrainian citizens. Simultaneously, the agent was opening online accounts under fictitious identities, which were intended for use in financing agent networks.

He was targeting drug addicts and unemployed individuals who agreed to provide their details for a one-time monetary reward. The IT specialist personally selected potential “candidates” for recruitment and passed their contacts to the FSB.

SBU counterintelligence documented how the suspect helped the Russian intelligence service contact an unemployed resident of Rivne region. At the aggressor’s direction, he was adjusting Russian airstrikes in the western region of Ukraine by marking the geolocations of Defense Forces on Google Maps and sending them to his handlers.

SBU officers uncovered the enemy adjuster at the initial stage of his activities and detained him at his place of residence. Simultaneously, during searches at the agent’s home, smartphones and computer equipment with evidence of his work for the enemy were confiscated.

SBU investigators informed the detainees of their suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason in a state of war). The perpetrators are being held in custody without the right to bail, facing life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
