A report of a theft from the yard of a house was received by the police on October 15 at 2 PM from a 39-year-old resident of Rivne.
Investigators established that a 31-year-old native of Donetsk and a 22-year-old native of Kherson had come to Rivne in search of work. In pursuit of easy money, the men entered the yard and stole two bicycles that were parked near the house.
As a result, they caused the victim material damage amounting to about 20,000 hryvnias.
The offenders planned to sell the stolen items at a pawn shop, but were unable to do so due to issues with their documents. Consequently, they sold one bicycle to an unknown person for 1,000 hryvnias, which they spent. While moving through the city with the other bicycle, they were detained by law enforcement officers.
The 22-year-old and 31-year-old men were arrested in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility.
The issue of notifying them of suspicion for committing a crime under part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft committed under martial law) and choosing preventive measures is being resolved.
Both detainees already had criminal records. The 31-year-old man was released from prison in December 2024 for committing thefts. His 22-year-old accomplice was serving a sentence in the Republic of Poland for a similar crime and was deported to Ukraine two weeks ago.
They now face imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
