The Western Appellate Economic Court upheld the decision of the Economic Court of Lviv Region, made on September 18, 2025, which granted the claim of the Dubno District Prosecutor’s Office in favor of the State Environmental Inspection of the Polissia Region and the Tarakaniv Village Council against JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

The appeal was dismissed, and the decision of the first instance court was confirmed. Thus, the obligation of the defendant to compensate for over 156.3 thousand UAH in damages caused to the environment due to illegal tree felling has been definitively confirmed.

The facts of illegal felling were recorded in 2023 on a land plot for which Ukrzaliznytsia is the permanent forest user. Based on inspections and relevant calculations conducted by specialists, the amount of damage caused to the surrounding natural environment was determined.

The Appellate Court, having reviewed the case materials, concluded that the decision of the first instance court was lawful and justified, and there were no grounds for its cancellation.
