In civilized countries, where the institution of reputation operates, a former leader typically does not return to the organization they once headed. This is considered unethical. In Ukraine, however, discussing reputation is challenging, so it is not entirely appropriate to reproach Volodymyr Khomko, who held the position of mayor of Rivne for twelve years. Last week, the 68-year-old Khomko unexpectedly resigned from his deputy duties without explaining his motives.
This is characteristic of him: five years ago, he also did not explain why he declined to run for mayor again, despite having a chance of victory. His decision to run for deputy from the one-day party “For the Future” also went unexplained, as he had distanced himself from influential political projects beforehand. It is doubtful that this time we will learn the reasons for his departure from politics. We can only thank him for the years of leadership in the city, during which he won elections against a candidate with a questionable reputation. However, regardless of his leadership, it is regrettable that he delayed his decision to leave the city council by five years.

— Thank you all for your cooperation, especially to my faction. We are very united, and we had good relations. I wish that this term ends without incidents and everything goes well. A lot is happening in the city right now; I can see how enemies are frothing at the mouth. I want to wish Viktor Shakiryanz that everything he plans comes to life, and that the next term goes smoothly. With that word, take care and be healthy!
Among the first candidates for Volodymyr Khomko’s vacant seat in the city council are Iryna Tesliuk, former commercial director of the football club “Veres”; Yuriy Romanenko, a restaurateur entrepreneur; and Andriy Bilanchuk, owner of the company “Avtoplyus A”. The head of the faction in the city council will now be the co-owner of the Rivne brewery, Maryan Hoda.
