Doctor in Rivne Region Charged in Patient’s Death

A 53-year-old doctor has been charged with improper performance of professional duties.

On February 2, 2024, a 53-year-old man was hospitalized in a hospital in the Rivne district after being a victim of violence by his roommate a few days prior.

The emergency room doctor failed to conduct a proper examination of the patient, did not order additional tests, and did not involve specialists from relevant fields, resulting in an inaccurate clinical diagnosis.

The next day, the man died from severe abdominal organ damage and internal bleeding. An expert examination revealed that his life could have been saved had the necessary diagnostic tests and timely surgical intervention been performed. According to the medical certificate, the cause of death was damage to the abdominal organs accompanied by internal bleeding.

Situation with the Criminal

The 63-year-old aggressor was detained in February 2024. The court ordered him to be held in custody; however, he died in the detention center during the investigation.
