The Kostopil District Court of Rivne Region has issued a verdict for 40-year-old Ivan Ovezliiev, who violently threatened patrol officers with murder and threw a paintball grenade at them, which ultimately exploded.
This is reported by Rivne24
The crime occurred while under the influence of alcohol, and the man expressed remorse. He was sentenced to one year of probation supervision.
According to the verdict, the incident took place on the night of May 29, 2025, on the highway Hordyshche – Rivne – Starokostiantyniv near Kostopil. The patrol stopped a VAZ 2104 vehicle, driven by Ivan Ovezliiev.
During the conversation with the driver, law enforcement officers noticed signs of intoxication and suggested he take an alcohol test. The man agreed but failed to use the “Dräger” properly, resulting in an error in the readings. Outraged by this, the driver locked himself in the car and began threatening the patrol officers with murder. He did not respond to the demand to exit the vehicle and threw an explosive device towards the police, which detonated.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the explosion, as the grenade was a paintball type. The assailant was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. Upon re-examination, the breathalyzer showed 0.31 promille.
In court, Ovezliiev admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. The patrol officers requested that the case be considered without their presence and stated that they had no claims against the defendant.
Judge Oleksandr Tsvirkun found the offender guilty under part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) and sentenced him to one year of probation supervision. Additionally, the man is required to pay over 16 thousand hryvnias in court costs. This decision can be appealed in the appellate court.
