Fatal Traffic Accident in Berezne with Tragic Consequences
In July 2022, a fatal road traffic accident occurred in the Berezne area, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist. According to the Rivne Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a forester from a private cooperative in the village of Orlivka, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, entered the oncoming lane. This led to a collision with a “Viper 150” motorcycle.

Both participants in the accident had alcohol in their blood: the motorcyclist had 1.67 promille, while the driver of the SUV had 2.20 promille. The prosecutor demanded a five-year prison sentence for the accused and a similar duration of deprivation of the right to drive vehicles.
The court found the man guilty but took into account his disability, imposing a sentence of two years of corrective labor with 20% of his earnings deducted to the state budget. The driver was also obligated to pay the parents of the deceased 800,000 hryvnias as compensation.
However, the Rivne Regional Prosecutor’s Office considers the sentence too lenient and plans to appeal it.
