Otolaryngologists at the Children’s Medicine Center Successfully Operate on a Young Patient from Rivne Region
Lviv otolaryngologists from the “Okhmatdyt” hospital successfully performed surgery for bilateral sensorineural hearing loss on one-year-old Alexandra from the Rivne region. The girl’s relatives noticed that she did not respond to sounds when she was three months old. After a consultation with an audiologist, a diagnosis was established.

After learning about the capabilities of Lviv specialists through social media, the girl’s parents decided to seek help from the Children’s Medicine Center in Lviv.
Following thorough examinations, the young patient was prepared for surgery, which involved otolaryngologist Fedir Yurochko, anesthesiologist Mariyana Prokopchuk, and operating nurse Nadiya Hunyak.
The surgery was successful, and within a month, Alexandra will hear sounds and her parents’ voices for the first time. This marks the fifteenth successful cochlear implantation performed by Lviv otolaryngologists. The first such surgeries began at “Okhmatdyt” in 2022, when specialists received assistance from foreign colleagues.
This year, Lviv doctors have started to successfully perform cochlear implantations independently. According to Fedir Yurochko, the implants are purchased with state funds.
