In Rivne, law enforcement prevented a potential tragedy — an armed man who threatened to detonate grenades was successfully apprehended. Fortunately, no one was harmed.

This is reported by Rivne24

The incident occurred on April 4 at around 8:30 PM on Soborna Street. During a check, a National Guard serviceman reported to the police that a 43-year-old resident of the village of Orzhiv had pulled the pin from a grenade and began threatening to detonate it.

Police leadership, an investigative group, explosives experts, special forces from KORD, and patrol officers arrived at the scene immediately.

Negotiations with the perpetrator lasted over three hours. The deputy head of the National Police, KORD negotiators, and the unit leader were involved. As a result, the man was apprehended without the use of force.

It was determined that he was in a status of AWOL — having left his military unit without permission.

One of the munitions, according to preliminary information, ended up in the river and was pulled out by a drag line. The other was neutralized and seized by law enforcement. Both will be sent for examination.

The man has been detained in accordance with procedural law. Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident, and investigative actions are ongoing.
