A 49-year-old man who left a military unit without permission, stole a car, and was hiding from investigators has been arrested in the Rivne region.

On January 30, a 30-year-old serviceman reported to the police that his Fiat Doblo, parked on the territory of the military training ground, had been stolen. Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and operatives began searching for the stolen vehicle and the perpetrator. On the same day, police found the stolen car near the village of Klevan in the Rivne district.
Shortly thereafter, detectives from the Kostopil Police Department, together with colleagues from the Main Directorate, identified the suspect, a 49-year-old resident of the same locality, who had been mobilized in January of this year.
On February 14, around 06:40, an investigative group, supported by a special police unit, arrived at his residence. Upon noticing the police, the man began shooting at the law enforcement officers from the window of the house.
The special forces surrounded the residence and began negotiations. After a series of gunshots, the suspect exited the house with his hands raised and was arrested. Fortunately, no one was injured.
During the search, police seized a pistol, automatic weapons, three air rifles, a bayonet knife, 29 blank cartridges, 7 shell casings, a smoking pipe, and foil containing psychotropic substances.
The suspect has been informed of the charges against him, he is detained in accordance with procedural law, and is currently in a temporary detention facility. The military prosecutor’s office is overseeing the proceedings.
