Massive Russian Attack on Infrastructure Led to Train Delays in Ukraine

As a result of the overnight massive attack by Russia on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on September 17, significant delays in passenger trains are being observed, especially on the Odesa and Dnipro routes. Some services are forced to operate on altered routes, and issues have also affected international connections.

To minimize the effects of the attack, Ukrzaliznytsia has deployed 20 backup locomotives. Dispatchers are taking precautions by stopping trains at a safe distance from the impact zones. In the border towns of Chełm and Przemyśl, Ukrainian dispatchers are collaborating with foreign colleagues to organize transfers and optimize border control.

“Work is ongoing to restore power for signaling systems; currently, operations are organized in a backup format.”

Changes in Suburban Transport

On September 17, the following suburban services are either not being operated or are being reduced:

  • №6501/6592 Znamianka — Shevchenko — Cherkasy
  • №6503 Znamianka — Myronivka
  • №6331 Znamianka — Pomichna
  • №6332 Kolosivka — Znamianka (shortened to Kropyvnytskyi station)
  • №6036 Pomichna — Znamianka (shortened to Sakharnaya station)

Increased Attacks on Railway Infrastructure

According to the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, Russian strike drones have attacked critical infrastructure facilities in the region. It is worth noting that since July, Russia has significantly intensified its massive attacks on Ukraine’s railway facilities, particularly targeting key junction stations.
