Oleg Shandruk: Our goal is to make it into the top ten

The head coach of the Rivne club Veres, Oleg Shandruk, summarized the away match against Lviv’s Rukh.

In this goalless match, unfortunately, the result was predictable. Both teams had opportunities to score, but the conversion of chances left much to be desired.

“It is impossible to predict all situations on the field; one cannot rely solely on long shots or playing on the heels. This is football, and circumstances change very quickly, which affects the flow of the game,” Shandruk noted.

The coach also pointed out that the rotation in attack was forced, as the team was without forwards Denys Ndukwe and Serhiy Stenya due to injuries. “We decided to trust Fabrizio Yan and Dmytro Hoda,” he added.

Shandruk emphasized that a draw, especially a goalless one, is hard to accept. “The players probably feel the same way. But the most important thing is that the team remains in the Premier League for the next season, which is important for Rivne and the region. However, we strive to rise higher and secure ourselves in the middle of the table,” the coach noted.

He also stressed the need to stabilize the team’s performance, considering the numerous changes throughout the year. “The main task for the last three matches is to stabilize our level of play, progress, and think about the next championship. We have a clear goal – to make it into the top ten,” Shandruk emphasized.

Regarding the rotation in the goalkeeper position, he mentioned that, given Andriy Kozhukhar’s limited playing time, some nervousness is normal. “But I want to emphasize that Valentyn Horokh would not be who he is now without Kozhukhar. This is healthy competition within the team, and today Valentyn demonstrated that,” he stated.

The coach also recalled last season when Andriy Kozhukhar consistently played in goal, which helped achieve a historic result. “He deserves his moments and received them today,” Oleg Shandruk concluded.
