Restored Icon of the Mother of God ‘Odigitria Dorohobuzka’ Returns to Rivne

The icon of the Mother of God “Odigitria Dorohobuzka” has successfully undergone restoration and will soon return to Rivne.

This is reported by Rivne24

Before its return, it will be displayed at the Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after B.H. Voznytsky, located in the Potocki Palace.

The image shows the digitized version before restoration. The icon was glued along the contour to a new board, losing its authentic background and the archangels in the corners, and the bottom with the inscription about the restoration was trimmed.

This icon dates back to the last third of the 13th century and originates from the Assumption Church in the village of Dorohobuz in the Rivne region. It has been kept in the museum since 1984, following an expedition by Viktor Luts.

During 2024–2025, specialists from the National Scientific Research Restoration Center conducted comprehensive studies and conservation-restoration work, which not only stabilized the condition of the monument but also allowed for a deeper examination of its technological and artistic features.

The exhibition opening will take place on May 15 at 3:00 PM and will last for a month. Location – Potocki Palace in Lviv at the address: M. Kopernika St., 15. After the exhibition ends, the icon will return to Rivne.
