Rivne Deputies Supported the Renaming of ‘Kopiyka’ to ‘Shah’

At a meeting of the Rivne Regional Council, deputies expressed their support for the National Bank’s initiative to rename ‘kopiyka’ to ‘shah’.

This is reported by Rivne24

It is noted that if the renaming takes place, it will not cause any inconvenience to the population, as both currency units will remain in circulation for a certain period of time.

It is worth emphasizing that ‘shah’ is a historical currency unit that has been used in Ukrainian lands since the 16th century, particularly during the period of the Hetmanate and the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921. This term is also actively used in classical Ukrainian literature, including the works of Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, and Ivan Kotlyarevsky.
