In Rivne, a nurse has been charged in the death of an infant

According to the medical certificate, the child died from burn shock caused by a thermal burn covering 45% of the body surface of degrees I-III, sustained from contact with a heating device in a medical facility.

In December 2022, a 2-month-old girl underwent surgery in one of the children’s hospitals in Rivne region, during which she was lying on her stomach.

The investigation established that a 42-year-old nurse, who was part of the surgical team, negligently performed her duties by allowing the use of an uncertified and unaccounted heating device. This resulted in fatal burns to the child, with the face, abdomen, chest, and legs being the most affected.

Investigators have informed the 42-year-old woman of the charges against her. As part of the investigation, witnesses have been interrogated and a comprehensive forensic examination has been conducted.

The court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect. Under the provisions of the article, she faces up to 3 years of imprisonment. Investigative actions are ongoing.
