In Rivne, a pensioner was robbed in the street

In Rivne, on the afternoon of September 23, an incident occurred in which a 74-year-old pensioner became a victim of robbery. The man withdrew 10,000 hryvnias from an ATM and placed it in his backpack. An unknown individual, who had been watching him, decided to steal the money when the pensioner descended into an underground passage.

The offender snatched the wallet containing 400 dollars, bank cards, and documents, and fled. The Rivne police department, with the assistance of the criminal analysis sector, quickly identified the robber — a 40-year-old local resident.

Thanks to the prompt actions of law enforcement, the man was apprehended with the support of special forces in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and placed in a temporary detention facility.

During a search at the suspect’s residence, the police discovered 255 dollars, credit cards, a revolver, five cartridges, and clothing. Currently, efforts are underway to locate the rest of the stolen money.

The question of notifying the 40-year-old resident of Rivne of suspicion for committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery committed under martial law) is being resolved. Additionally, the offender is being checked for involvement in the theft of a television from a café on Ostrozky Street that occurred in early September.
