In Rivne Region, a man was fined 370,000 hryvnias for catching crayfish

The Environmental Inspection filed a lawsuit demanding the recovery of 370,000 hryvnias in damages for the illegal catch of 141 crayfish in Rivne Region.

The violation was detected during a raid on the Ikva River in the Dubno district in the spring of 2022, when a spawning ban on fishing was in effect. The man caught 141 crayfish, which significantly exceeds the allowed limit of 30 per day.

According to estimates by the State Environmental Inspection of the Polissya region, the total amount of damages caused to the state due to the illegal catch of valuable aquatic biological resources is 369 852 hryvnias.

Information about the incident was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations; however, the criminal proceedings were closed the following year, and the case was transferred to the administrative sphere.

On February 26, 2024, the Mlyniv District Court found the man guilty and imposed a fine of 340 hryvnias.

The State Environmental Inspection sent a claim to the offender for damages amounting to nearly 370,000 hryvnias, which was to be paid within a month, but the money was not received. In this regard, the inspection announced its intention to file a lawsuit in the Mlyniv District Court for the forced recovery of funds, with the imposition of court costs on the offender.
