In Rivne Region, Two Fallen Defenders Were Laid to Rest

Relatives, comrades, and fellow townspeople bid farewell to Roman Sychnik and Pavlo Khorkholiuk

Roman Sychnik was born on July 28, 1979, in the city of Berezne. He studied at Berezne Secondary School No. 2 and then at Berezne Vocational Technical School. In peaceful life, he worked as a meat boner at local enterprises. Roman loved his job, and even more so, he loved cooking, happily preparing meat, making homemade sausages, and various meat products. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, which brought him peace and tranquility. Roman was a responsible and kind person, always ready to help. He was a pillar for his family — a caring son, a loving husband, and a father.

Since June 2022, Roman defended Ukraine, but unfortunately, he passed away on September 15. His comrades knew him by the call sign “Sych,” and for them, he will forever remain a reliable friend and a faithful warrior. Roman is survived by his mother, wife, and two daughters. He was buried in the local cemetery.

Pavlo Khorkholiuk was born on July 12, 1987, in Rivne. He studied at the NVC No. 2 “School-Lyceum” and obtained higher education at the International Economic and Humanitarian University named after Academician Stepan Demyanchuk. For many years, Pavlo worked as a private entrepreneur, engaging in trade with his mother. He loved cars and speed, repairing vehicles himself. Pavlo also actively helped homeless animals, organizing collections of food and funds for them, especially in combat zones.

Although Pavlo was not subject to military service and had health issues, from the first days of the full-scale war, he decided to defend Ukraine. “I can’t just watch this; I have to go,” he said. After several attempts to join the military, he succeeded through the district TCC. In June 2022, he became part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participating in the liberation of Kherson, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, and Lyman. Comrades remember Pavlo as a person who supported team spirit and instilled faith in survival during danger.

On September 7, during a combat mission in the Donetsk direction, Senior Soldier Pavlo Khorkholiuk was killed. He is survived by his mother, sister, and son. The warrior was buried at the Heroes’ Alley of the “Nove” cemetery in the city of Rivne.

Light be the memory of the defenders of Ukraine.
