After the start of the full-scale invasion, he participated in the construction of fortifications and underground schools in the eastern regions of Ukraine. In October 2025, Volodymyr was mobilized into the Armed Forces.

“He enjoyed his service. He would say, ‘Why didn’t I go to study to become a soldier right away?’ Volodya adapted to the discipline and quickly mastered all the necessary skills. He was a kind and compassionate person who never refused to help. He got along well with technology and knew how to operate various vehicles,” said the Defender’s mother.

Unfortunately, 37-year-old sailor Volodymyr Vanyk was killed on April 6, 2026, while performing a combat mission in Donetsk region.

Volodymyr is survived by his mother, brother, and three children who live abroad.

The farewell to Volodymyr Vanyk will take place on Tuesday, April 14, at 10:00 AM in Independence Square in Rivne. A memorial service will be held at the Holy Resurrection Cathedral. The serviceman will be buried at the Heroes’ Alley in the “Nove” cemetery in the regional center.
