Shakhtar defeated Veres with a score of 1:0, although the hosts clearly dominated the game. From the very first minutes, the miners seized possession of the ball and territory, and winger Prosper Oba made his debut in the starting lineup after a previous attempt: in the last match against Karpaty (3:3), he remained on the bench. Veres, on the other hand, focused on a tight, compact defense and rarely ventured into attack.

Despite total domination, Shakhtar struggled to convert their pressure into a goal for a long time. The team regularly finished their attacks with shots, but the opponent skillfully closed down spaces and held on, while the decisive strike was lacking until the end of the game. The match statistics vividly illustrate its scenario: Shakhtar had nearly 20 shots, while Veres managed only one.

The breakthrough came in the 81st minute when defender Valerii Bondar brought the miners victory with a precise shot – 1:0. For Bondar, this goal was special as he effectively saved the team from dropping points on his birthday: he turned 27 years old. In the final minutes, Veres was unable to organize a last-ditch effort, and Shakhtar maintained their lead to secure the win.
