Three Men Sentenced for Beating a Friend to Death in Rivne Region

Four men had previously encountered legal issues and were serving sentences in correctional facilities.

On February 28 at 1:20 PM, the police received a report from residents of the village of Krynychky in the Hoshcha district about the discovery of the body of a 60-year-old homeowner.

Law enforcement officials determined that on the day of the tragedy, the deceased had been consuming alcohol in the company of four acquaintances: a 47-year-old, a 26-year-old, a 29-year-old, and a 41-year-old local residents. During the gathering, a conflict arose among them, resulting in the suspects inflicting numerous bodily injuries on the man using their hands, feet, sticks, and a stool.

Approximately two hours later, the victim died from severe injuries.

The investigator informed the four residents of Rivne region of their suspicion in committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional serious bodily injury committed by a group of individuals resulting in the death of the victim).

The court imposed preventive measures in the form of detention for three of the suspects, while the 47-year-old perpetrator was placed under house arrest. The investigative department completed the pre-trial investigation concerning the 26-year-old, 29-year-old, and 41-year-old suspects, and the materials were sent to court.

Aggravating circumstances include the commission of the crime while under the influence of alcohol and against an elderly person, while mitigating factors are sincere remorse and cooperation in the investigation.

The Hoshcha District Court approved a plea agreement between the prosecutor and the three defendants, issuing sentences of 8 years of imprisonment for each.
