Tractor Driver from Rivne Region Becomes Platoon Commander: The Story of Vasyl

Vasyl, call sign “Lisnyk” — a 51-year-old soldier from Rivne Region

In peacetime, he worked as a tractor driver in a forestry enterprise, had a farm, and raised children. Today, his son also serves at the brigade’s training center, while his daughter stays at home with their mother. Communication with his family is limited to short messages — “good morning” and “good night.”

This is reported by Rivne24

“I regret many things in my life,” he says. “But I went to fight so that my children wouldn’t have to fight.”

Vasyl rarely talks about his combat experience. “There were losses,” he admits briefly, then falls silent. The hardest part for him is not the trenches or injuries, but the loss of comrades. He himself has also endured injuries and five months of rehabilitation. He returned to service because his son is beside him. “Withdraw? No. Someone has to be here,” Vasyl explains.

Now, “Lisnyk” serves as the platoon commander of the 104th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine. He does not hide his fatigue: “Everything has become so tiresome,” but he understands that duty is stronger than exhaustion. His dream is simple yet almost unattainable in wartime — to wake up one day in silence, without alarms and haste.

“For a quicker Victory,” he adds.
