Veres U19 Secures Victory Over Karpaty U19 in Rivne

The match of the 24th round of the U19 National League championship between the youth teams of Rivne’s Veres and Lviv’s Karpaty was a showcase for nineteen-year-old Maksym Yakhontov. The wing defender marked his first double at this level. However, he could have easily aimed for a hat-trick.

Veres U19 – Karpaty U19 – 2:0 (1:0)

Veres U19: Kharechko – Yakhontov, Sanotskyi, Ghazazyan (Druzhynin, 88), Boichuk, Malyuta (Hrabovenko, 46), Mihutskyi, Miklyash, Pushkutsia (Saichishin, 61), Murashko (Vydrych, 88), Matkivskyi (Volchkov, 79). Substitutes: Sahan, Pylipey, Seredyuk, Korniienko, Oroskievich, Khalilov, Domantovych.
Head Coach: Stanislav Upilkov.

Goals: Yakhontov (25, 57).

The hosts, who had not lost in six consecutive championship matches, had a chance to take the lead in the 20th minute. The guests poorly executed a build-up play in front of their own goal. Lyubomyr Kuzyk failed to reach the ball after a pass from Denys Poterayko and fouled Dmytro Murashko. Maksym Yakhontov stepped up to take the penalty but lost the duel to the Karpaty goalkeeper.

However, the setback did not discourage the hosts. On the contrary, just five minutes later, Maksym Yakhontov scored after a high pass from the left by Dmytro Matkivskyi and a header assist from Yevhen Malyuta.

From that point on, Stanislav Upilkov’s team played with maximum concentration in front of their own goal. When given the opportunity, they scored a second and decisive goal. Maksym Yakhontov completed his double with a superb free-kick from a rather acute angle on the right flank.

Veres U19 has not lost in seven consecutive matches of the National League championship!
