Mykola Nesenyuk: The Legacy of Hersch Pisyuk and Privatization Issues

Not long ago, it became known about the grandson of Hersch Pisyuk, the former owner of the brewery in Rivne, who now lives in Israel. Pisyuk, who once built a successful brewery, became a victim of the new authorities that seized his enterprise.

This factory, despite all the difficulties, managed to survive during the times when most enterprises were liquidated by the communists. Today, it is operational again, and the new owners are studying its history. As part of this research, the grandson of the former owner, Arik Degani, was found, whose story has sparked interest among many enthusiasts of the past.

This is reported by Rivne24

According to Nesenyuk, the current authorities should return the factory to Arik, as it is simply fair. Many Eastern European countries that freed themselves from communist rule in the 1990s returned property to its rightful owners. In contrast, the situation in Ukraine remains unchanged – former communist leaders often hold positions in local councils, making it impossible to return seized property.

Arik Degani, according to available information, does not claim ownership of the brewery that rightfully belongs to him and does not seek compensation for the damages inflicted on his family. This raises some surprise, as the new owners have invested significant funds into the enterprise in recent years. Despite this, the question of returning the factory remains relevant, as it raises issues of protecting private property in Ukraine.

In Nesenyuk’s view, such a situation creates risks for modern entrepreneurs, who may lose their property due to any court decisions. Therefore, businesspeople are trying to find a way to the authorities to protect their interests, as without this, their property may be at risk.
