The electoral process for the “School Ombudsman” pilot project is ongoing in general secondary education institutions in the Rivne region.

This initiative aims to create a safe, friendly, and fair environment in schools where every student is aware of their rights, respects the rights of others, and can defend their own position.
The school ombudsman is a student from grades 8 to 11, elected from among the active members of the student self-government. The main responsibilities of the ombudsman include assisting peers in resolving conflict situations, accepting appeals, informing about children’s rights, and initiating preventive measures within the educational institution.
Each educational institution independently organizes and chooses the format of the electoral process: student communities identify candidates, conduct debates, presentations, videos, prepare election programs, and carry out voting. This approach allows students to feel real participation in decision-making, as well as to learn responsibility and leadership.
The pilot project is being implemented with the support of the Representative of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights in the Rivne region, the Department of Education and Science of the Rivne Regional State Administration, and the teaching staff of educational institutions.
