After studying at the Rivne Technical Vocational College of the National University of Water Management and Nature Management, he continued his education at the National University of Water Management and Nature Management, where he earned the rank of junior lieutenant. Sergiy also received an economic education and worked as an administrator at the ATB supermarket in Ostroh, later becoming the deputy manager of the ATB store in Berezne.

In November 2022, Sergiy was called up for military service. After training at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy, he took the position of deputy company commander for psychological support in the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade.

In January 2023, his unit was deployed to Donetsk region, where they provided defense in the area of Kramatorsk and surrounding settlements.

“Sergiy never complained, always said he was fine, even though he was constantly at combat positions. He had no injuries, and the last time he was on leave was in October 2024, when he went to Bukovel with his little sons,” said the defender’s mother, Nina Ivanivna.

Sergiy maintained constant contact with his family. In April 2025, he was at his positions with his comrades but did not get in touch. A few days later, representatives from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support visited his parents and informed them that Sergiy Tolochik was missing in action during a combat mission on the outskirts of Kramatorsk.

In September, Sergiy’s parents received a call from an investigator in Dnipro who confirmed a DNA profile match. By a decree establishing the identity of Sergiy Tolochik, he was declared deceased on April 24, 2025.

During his service, Sergiy was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and later to senior lieutenant. He was awarded the President’s badge “For the Defense of Ukraine,” the badge “For Military Valor,” the honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi “Cross of Military Honor,” and the badge “War Veteran.”
