The Sarny community bids farewell to the Hero — 35-year-old Sergeant Vasyl Zhalko, a brave Defender of Ukraine.

Vasyl was born and lived in the city of Sarny. In 2020, he signed a contract and became part of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. His combat journey began in the ATO, where he earned the rank of sergeant. During the full-scale war, Vasyl remained in service, serving as a UAV crew commander and proving himself to be a reliable comrade and responsible commander, trusted with lives.
A war veteran, awarded state and combat honors for courage, bravery, and loyalty to Ukraine, he was killed on January 3, 2026, while performing a combat mission near Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region due to enemy shelling.
The Hero is survived by his mother, Nadiya Dmytrivna, and his brother, Dmytro, along with his family. The entire community mourns with them.
Farewell to the Hero will take place on January 30:
- 10:00 — funeral procession through the city (Kostopilska St. → Yevropeiska St. → Tekhnichna St.)
- 10:15 — farewell at home (Tekhnichna St., 11)
- 11:00 — burial service at the Holy Protection Church
- 12:10 — farewell at the central square
- 13:00 — burial at the Alley of Heroes (Sharpaika St.)
